Instill the joy of music.

Melody Makers

In our general music education class for children ages 5-9, your child will begin a fun, engaging journey into the world of music.

This class is designed to develop their pre-instrument musicianship and music literacy. But music literacy is more than just learning to read notes! It’s about helping your child feel music, create it, and connect with it emotionally and intellectually.

Through the use of exciting props like drums, desk bells, boomwhackers, and scarves, your child will not only learn the basics of music and music notation, but also how to experience rhythm, melody, and dynamics in a hands-on way. They’ll create their own musical patterns, explore different sounds, and develop a natural sense of musicality.

Our goal is to make sure that learning music is both educational and incredibly fun, sparking a lifelong love for it. Whether your child moves on to an instrument or simply enjoys music for its beauty, this class will give them a solid foundation.

A group music class that comes to YOU!

We believe that music education should be accessible to everyone, especially young children. We understand that traveling for classes and lessons can be challenging for families with busy schedules and little ones in tow. That's why we are excited to offer "A Class That Comes to YOU!"—an innovative solution designed to bring the joy of music right to your neighborhood!  By bringing our classes directly to you, we eliminate the stress of travel and add the benefit of a familiar environment so that children can thrive.

How It Works

Step 1

If you are interested in becoming a coordinating parent and having a class in your neighborhood, email Emily Martins at emilymartinsva@gmail.com. Don’t worry, coordinating is very easy! All you need to do is share about this class with your community and help to find a location for the class.

Step 2

To get started, we require a minimum number of participants, typically ranging from 6 to 10 children, depending on the location. The coordinating parent plays a crucial role in this process by helping to share the class with their community to encourage others to sign up. Promotional materials will be provided.

Step 3

The coordinating parent assists the teacher in finding a suitable location for the class, as you know your neighborhood best. We encourage you to think creatively! Possible venues include:

  • Churches: Many have community rooms that are perfect for group activities.

  • Community Centers: These often have dedicated spaces for classes and gatherings.

  • Homes: If you have a spacious room, why not host the class right in your living room?

Your child will walk away with…

  • Your child will demonstrate an understanding of basic music notation, including note reading and rhythm symbols. We introduce musical notation in a fun and easy way with familiar objects such as fruit, eggs in nests, and more!

  • Your child will develop an ability to connect emotionally and intellectually with music, recognizing how different musical elements can evoke feelings and ideas.

  • Your child will create and perform their own simple musical patterns, experimenting with different rhythms, melodies, and instruments.

  • Your child will experience music through movement and tactile activities, developing a natural sense of musicality by using scarves and other props to feel rhythm, meter, and dynamics.

  • Your child will develop listening skills, identifying various sounds, musical instruments, and patterns in music.

  • Your child will demonstrate the ability to maintain a steady beat and understand basic rhythmic patterns through clapping, drumming, and other movement activities.

  • This class lays a foundation upon which each child's musical life will be built. Starting children in instrumental lessons with this foundation of aural, rhythmic, and musical sensitivity can lead to greater satisfaction in playing an instrument.
